The national treasure animal-head were originally part of the fountain at Haiyantang in the Old Summer Palace. Designed by the Jesuit court artist Giuseppe Castiglione (Lang Shining), the zodiac heads were cast in red copper during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty.
